“All thy children shall be taught of the Lord: and great shall be the peace of thy children.”
Isaiah 54:13 (Douay-Rheims Bible)
I think we can all agree, as a nation we have become less kind and tolerant of others. I have a hope, founded in Christ, that we can turn this tide by diligently teaching our children the faith as handed down to us from the Church Fathers. I have a hope, founded in Christ, that our children can become builders of a culture of peace, when they are diligently taught the precepts of the Church and in turn lived out faithfully in their own lives. I have a hope for my students and their families, founded in Christ, that they will rise above the current tide of disunity and stand as leaders and defenders of the Church Jesus Christ founded.
Grace and Peace,
Mrs. Kuenning

This week, our class celebrated All Saints Day a bit early! It is important to teach our children that the Catholic Church blesses us with Holy Days of Obligation throughout the year, so that we can slow ourselves down and remember how God’s hand of providence has led his people through the lives of faithful men, women and children!

The children learned that God has called them to become saints also! We were introduced to a few saints this week such as Saint Lucy, Saint Anthony, St. John the Baptist, Saint Bernadette and others. We learned the Litany of the Saints and the children were mesmerized by the beauty of it, requesting I replay it several times!
The children were astonished to learn that people would be punished or harmed for loving Jesus! They are growing closer to Jesus in their child-like faith and are eager to go to Mass, (either in person or virtually) to sing the Litany as well as finding where the tabernacle is located and other objects such as sanctuary candles, baptismal fonts and more that they collected in their Mass books.

Our All Saints Day activities included making a Litany of the Saints booklet and singing along with the Litany on YouTube. We also made an All Saints Day wall hanging, and of course, enjoyed a buffet of treats offered by each of the saints we studied for the week!

Treats included: St. Raphael’s Fish, St, Mary Magdalene’s Spices, St. Kateri’s Turtles, Heavenly Halos, St. Bernadette’s Firewood, St. Anthony’s Tonsure, St. Lucy’s Eyeballs, St. Perpetua and St. Felicity’s Kit Kat Bars, St. Isadore’s Garden Bounty, St. Ambrose’s Honeybuns, St. Nicholas’ Peppermints, St. John the Baptist’s Crawling Creatures, St. Therese’s Fresh Flowers and Flower Cookies, St. Cecilia’s Piano Keys, St. Juan Diego’s Roses, and St. Francis’ Animal Crackers!

For a fun S.T.E.M activity, the children attempted to build a tall structure from marshmallows, pumpkin candies, wooden dowels and toothpicks. A LOT of discussion went back and forth about foundations, weight and perseverance!

We continued watching our dear Pumpkin Jack decompose and carried him outdoors Thursday to give him a final resting place near the playground. It will be fun to see what happens in the spring!
