How can I prepare for my Sentence Building Test? (February, 2022)

  • Review your study guide.
  • Practice problems like those in your study guide on loose leaf paper and check your guide to see if you were able to correctly solve the problem.
  • Have your parents quiz you on problems similar to those in your study guide.
    • You could use some of your notecards to make flashcards.
  • Go to www.ixl.com (Language Arts) and practice the starred skills in the JJ: “Sentences Fragments and Run-ons” section.

 

Reading Stories

  • How can I prepare for my Reading Test over Amelia and Eleanor Go for a Ride? (Thursday, February 10, 2022):
    • Reread the story and be prepared to answer questions about the story. Use the think and respond questions at the end of the story as practice.
      • Amelia and Eleanor Go for a Ride by Pam Muñoz Ryan Story link
    • Study the vocabulary words for the story (practical, brisk, outspoken, elevations, miniatures, elegant, starstruck, marveled) using the notes in your reading notebook.
    • Reflect on the following:
      • What were their respective careers?
      • Why is it important to know the time period of this story?
      • What makes Amelia and Eleanor such great friends?
      • Why did the author choose to write about these two ladies?
      • In what ways are Amelia and Eleanor independent?
    • Reread the short story from your reading group.
    • You will be asked to answer a few short answer questions on your test. You need to write these in complete sentences using evidence from the text to support your answer.
