Hi,

I am so excited to meet everyone this year! I am looking forward to getting to know new students, help them grow as writers and encourage a love for reading.  I have read 9 books so far this year and look forward to reading more! I challenge you to set a reasonable number of books and pick up something that looks intriguing to you.  Happy reading!

Hello 6th grade families! Thank you so much for your warm welcome and support. I was so nervous about moving to a new school, but I am so glad I am here and have had the chance to get to you and your students.

If students are going to be gone outside school break, please let us know to plan for your student.  Students are always welcome to come in early or stay late to meet with teachers about what was missed or they will need while they are gone.

I hope you have wonderful holiday, full of cheer, food, and rest!

It was great to meet a lot of you at the Open House.  I am looking forward to a terrific year with the 6th graders!

Happy New Year to our 6th grade students and their families.  I hope that 2022 is off to a good start for you all and I’m excited to welcome the students back to class.

Quarter two is filled with all sorts of fun Language Arts stuff in 6A.  In Guided Reading, we will be finishing the book Count Me In and doing a project that investigates physical barriers that exist in our community: what barriers exist that make it difficult for people with different abilities to access the world?  How can those barriers be removed?  Who can/should remove them?  After completing this project, we will move back to reading short stories for the rest of the quarter.

In English, we will continue learning about figurative language and using it to write poetry.  We’ll move into reading a verse novel, Garvey’s Choice, later this month, then move back into some grammar.  This time, we’ll focus on nouns: direct objects, indirect objects, and predicate nouns.

Quiz Bowl News:  Quiz Bowl meetings have started up.  Hooray!  We meet in 6A on Fridays after school, 3:35-4:15 pm.  All seventh and eighth raders are welcome to join!  We will be competing in 2-3 tournaments this year.  Our first event will likely be in November.
