You are invited to join us to see what the speech team has been up to. Please join us in the gym at 3:45 on Tuesday, May 7.
Speech is a competitive team where *5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students learn about different types of speaking and prepare and perform their pieces in competition. Events include Duet Acting, Extemporaneous Speaking, Humorous and Dramatic Interpretation, Declamation, Oral Interpretation of Drama, Impromptu, Original Oratory, and Poetry Interpretation.
This year we had 59 students competing! “Speechies” were busy memorizing pieces and increasing characterization and physicality for the interpretation events and busy writing and projecting confidence in their original oratory pieces.
*Please note that 5th graders were invited to compete at our final meet at Skutt on April 26.
Meetings on Tuesdays 3:30 – 4:30

*February 13 meeting was informational only for new members and their parents. If you are competing in Speech for our 2024 season, plan to attend the first meeting on February 20.
Meetings on Tuesdays after school, February to May, 3:30-4:30pm
*Please note that to be competitive, additional time outside of our Tuesday meetings is essential.
Individual coaching at recess or lunch time is mandatory. All pieces must be approved by Mrs. Martinez before competing.
Speech Meets: April 5, 2024 at Creighton Prep, April 12 at Marian, April 19 at Millard North, April 26 at Skutt
5th – 8th grades
*5th graders may compete at the Skutt meet if they arrange for coaching with Mrs. Martinez.
Attend first meeting on February 20; signed permission forms returned by February 19
Speech meet fees (typically $8 per entry per meet) and optional meal fees.
