Another great week in Kindergarten! I LOVE watching these kids thrive in their academics. I may or may not have teared up when we were doing a reading lesson. Watching their “light bulbs” go off was so rewarding. I am so proud of them. Please remember that book orders are due by 3:00 today.

I am So amazed at each and every student in KA. We have been doing so many assessment and I am so proud of how they have grown in their academics. It is so fun to see as a teacher! Just a couple reminders:

1. Please send a pre-filled water bottle to school. This helps us so much.
2. Write your child’s name on their sweatshirts. They all look alike and I have a pile with no names that I put into lost and found.
3. Zippers……please start practicing at home! It takes a long time for me to zip all those jackets. If they can help out, that would be great!!

I know I keep saying it, but we had another WONDERFUL week in KA!!!! The kids earned their 2nd Pom Pom Party. What better way to celebrate than with a “Swift Surprise” party with popsicles and story time outside! It was a blast!!!  Please remember to write your child’s names on their sweatshirts, they all look the same to us!

We had an awesome week learning all about our 5 senses. From nature walks to taste testings, we had a blast!!!  This was the first year ever that almost every K kid LOVED the Bitter chocolate. Wow!!!!  These kids are working hard and it is so much fun to see all that they are learning! They are awesome!!!!

Wow! We had such an AMAZING day at Ditmars Apple Orchard. We are so lucky to be able to visit year after year. All of the Kindergarten students had such wonderful manners and represented SPSL so well! A huge Thank you to all our parent helpers! We couldn’t do this without you.

A couple of items:

1. In your child’s folder, there will be an envelope if you wish to purchase their tile they made for the fundraiser. They are ADORABLE and I will say, I still have my sons from his Kindergarten year….and he is 18!
2. There is a conference form that will need to be filled out. Please fill that out and return by the date on the form.
3. Please send your child to school with a pre-filled water bottle. This really does help start our day off smoothly.
4. Please label all jackets, sweatshirts, etc.

Wowzers! I am impressed with the kids in KA!!!!!  We took our very first tests – Super Kids and math. Guess what?!?!  They rocked it!!!!  They followed directions wonderfully and were following all of our ROAR expectations! I was also so happy that we earned our very first Pom Pom party! How fun!!!!

We had another great week! I was so proud of how they came back from a long weekend and remembered so many of our classroom routines and expectations. How AWESOME!!!!!!  Please remember to send a pre-filled water bottle to school with your child every day. This helps us out so much! In your child’s folder tonight, you will find some “pamphlets” with the letters we have covered so far this school year. This is a great way to learn how our mouths make sounds, if a sound is “voiced” or “unvoiced” and there are even some fun activities for you to do with your child. You will begin to get one of these almost every week. Enjoy!!

Wow! What a GREAT week we had! There was so much learning happening, it brought the biggest smile to my face! The kids are doing a wonderful job settling into the routine and learning all the expectations. I couldn’t be more proud! Speaking of proud, I LOVED seeing so many kids in yellow today!!!  You are all awesome!!!

Wow! What a great first two days we had!! We will spend the next few weeks learning all our rules, routines and expectations. This takes a lot of time to implement, but it’ll all be worth it for a successful school year! I can tell we are going to have a great year! The kids in KA are so sweet, funny and kind. This is my favorite time of year! It is SO much fun to watch all the growth your child has made – both academically but socially as well. I am blown away by their reading and writing. Teaching truly is the most rewarding job!

Mission Day – The Kindergarten and 5th graders will be collecting canned food for the St. Pius and St. Leo’s Food Pantries. We will listen to a speaker talk about the importance of food pantries and then we will make tags and cards to put smiles on people’s faces. We are asking that all Kindergarten kids bring in a donation if possible. The more the better! Thanks for your help!!!

There is a note in your child’s folder about our end of year program. Please put this somewhere safe!

Wow! It was so  nice to be back in school after all those snow days! We are spending our days getting back into the routine and reviewing our rules and expectations. The kids in KA were SO excited to see each other after our Christmas break!

We do go out to recess if it “feels like” 10 degrees or higher. Please continue to send your child with the appropriate warm weather gear for recess. It helps a lot!  Also, thank you for sending your child with their water bottles and for all the Kleenex donations! This is much appreciated.

Exciting news – Kindergarten will now start going to Mass every Wednesday that it is scheduled for K-4. They did an amazing job this week and it is always exciting when this time of year comes. We also began liturgical practice with Miss Drovl and will have that on most Tuesday’s to practice church etiquette, prayers and songs.

Catholic Schools Week is fast approaching. There was a form that came home with your child about what Mass you will be attending. Last names A-L will be attending on Tuesday, January 30th at 8:30. Please have your child come to  KA first so they can drop off their backpack and coat. We will also need to take their lunch order. After we have that, you are welcome to take them to Mass. Last Names M-Z will attend Mass on Wednesday, January 31st at 9:00. Your children will come to school at normal time and ride the bus to St. Leo’s and meet you at Mass. It is very important that your child has someone to sit with during Mass. If you are unable to attend, please arrange for a grandparent, aunt, uncle or family friend to sit with them.

We are having a great week learning all about Thanksgiving! It has been so fun to hear what they are thankful for. Please remember to bring a pre-filled water bottle to school. As the weather gets colder, please practice buttoning and zipping your child’s coat with them.

I am so thankful for the class and blessed to be their teacher. They are the kindest kids, always helping each other, helping me and supporting each other. I love how when someone doesn’t know how to do something, they will go help each other without any hesitation. So sweet to see! November 13th is World Kindness Day. I am so excited to do some fun activities in KA on that day.

We are loving this fall weather in KA! Please remember to bring a jacket as it could be cool for morning recess. It is so hard to believe that Quarter 1 is over. I am so proud of each and every student in KA! They are rocking it.

Fall is in the air! The kids are settling so nicely into our routine and it is so much fun to see the progress in their work. If you are looking for ideas to do at home, some simple ideas are: practice writing their high frequency words, keep reading their HFW, count as  high as they can, write their numbers, practice letters and sounds and say their prayers.

We will begin assessments in the next week over many of these concepts.

This has been such a great week in KA. We are really settling in to our routine and I feel everyone is really getting the hang of it! Such a great feeling! Our week ended in such a special way. We ended our week honoring a very special SPSL kid who lost his battle to DIPG one year ago. Not only was I Jimmy’s Kindergarten teacher, but I have been friends with the family for over 20 years. THANK YOU for sending your kids to school in yellow today!!!  I know Jimmy would have LOVED the attention he is getting! As Jimmy said, “Be happy for no reason.” I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Wow!  I can’t believe we did it…..our first full week of Kindergarten!  Your kids rocked it!  We kept very busy with lots of fun projects and learning our rules and routines.  They are becoming old pros!  Just a reminder to please send your child’s water bottle filled up and ready to go for the day, along with extra masks.  This helps us out so much!

Wow!  We had an AMAZING first couple of days back at school!  Your kids are ROCKSTARS and I have enjoyed every minute with them. The first few weeks are spent working on routines, expectations and getting to know one another.  There is so much to learn in Kindergarten these first few weeks! I am so excited for a full week of school next week so we can get used to our routine. We also get to visit our specialty teachers next week!  How fun!

A couple of items:

1. If your child is bringing a cold lunch from home, please practice opening containers, packages, etc with them this weekend.  This will help make sure that they have plenty of time to eat their lunch.
2. If your child is having hot lunch from school, please go over the choices with them.  I will remind them when they come in and will take their order, but it does help if they have an idea of what they would like to eat.
3. Your kids are doing a GREAT job coming in the classroom in the morning.  Thank you for saying your goodbyes at the classroom door and not coming into KA.  As a parent, I know this is hard, but it really helps build their independence.

We had such an amazing week in KA and the weather was glorious!!!  We all enjoyed eating lunch outside this week and enjoying the fresh air!!  It looks like the temps will be dropping again, so please remember to send a warm coat with your child.  Several students in KA are not bringing water bottles to school and extra masks.  We do ask that each child comes to school with 5 clean masks and a filled up (leak proof) water bottle.  Thanks for your help with this! We have been having so much fun with “nonsense” words this week!  Your kids are AMAZING at sounding them out and writing them!  A practice packet is coming home today!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
