7th Grade Religion

What are we learning?

The Bible can be an intimidating book if you’ve never read one before. Especially if the Bible you’re using is a study Bible. The 7th grade students started the school year learning how to use the new classroom Bibles. We expanded our Bible knowledge by learning how to use footnotes and cross-references. We also learned about the different writing styles used throughout the Bible.

7th Grade Math

What are we learning?

7th Grade – We just finished our first unit reviewing integer operations and the order of operations. We are now moving into Unit 2: Solving Equations, where we will apply these skills to solve for unknown variables.

7th Grade Advanced – We have successfully wrapped up our first unit on integer operations and the order of operations. Our next focus is Unit 2: Solving Equations and Inequalities, where students will apply their problem-solving skills to more complex algebraic concepts.

7th Grade Social Studies

What are we learning?

Current Events have been the primary focus since our quiz over the 5 Themes of Geography. The current event is a quarterly assignment where the students write a summary, a reflection, and a connection to a current event article of their choice. Also by the end of the first week of September we will begin our climate and weather unit.

7th Grade Language Arts

What are we learning?

This week we are signing up for the Book Bowl competition.  If you’re child would like to participate and has yet to sign up, please have them see Mrs. Jaros for a permission slip.

In class, we are continuing our work on background knowledge of Realistic Fiction.  We read the short story The Scholarship Jacket to help us work on the theme and how the characters, setting, plot, and conflict help build into the message of the story.  We will continue reading independently, as well as, a few short stories as a class to help build our understanding.

We are off to a great start and I look forward to the rest of the semester.

Seventh grade is using Wordly Wise textbook to develop a more proficient and workable vocabulary for writing assignments. The majority of our work is accomplished in class together and in small groups

8th Grade Science

What are we learning?

Our first week has been filled with thinking like scientists. Both grades are working on classroom and learning routines to establish strong habits. We covered who can be a scientist and what a scientist does. As well as practicing what an observation and inference are. Next week we will learn lab safety and have our first quiz. Your students are a joy to serve and lead.

8th Grade Religion

What are we learning?

The Bible is one big story that teaches us about God and His plan for salvation through Jesus Christ. The 8th grade students have discovered more about the overall story of the Bible through class discussions, group activities, and articles and videos. Understanding the story of the Bible will give us the foundation needed as we move forward into Church history.

8th Grade Math

What are we learning?

Algebra 1: Foundations – We are concluding our first unit on decimal and integer operations. Soon, we will shift our focus to fractions, reviewing how to perform all four operations with rational numbers before applying these skills to solve equations.

Algebra 1 – Integer Operations and Equations is complete. We are now beginning a review of fractions to prepare for solving equations with fractional coefficients.

Algebra 1 Advanced – We have completed Unit 1: Integer Operations and Matrices. Next, we will start Unit 2, where we will take a deeper dive into solving equations by applying the skills learned in the first unit.

8th Grade Social Studies

What are we learning?

Over the past week, the 8th graders completed their first quiz of the school year on the foundations of the Constitution. This first week of September will feature another quiz on the failures of the Articles of the Confederation. There is a study guide posted on Google Classroom for all students. The quiz will be Thursday, September 4th.
