Wow, what an amazing start of they year! How is it already December? The classroom has been filled with reading, writing, excitement, joy, and laughter. I couldn’t ask for a better group of students to spend my time with.
Our class has been so blessed this year. Many class photos and more stories to go along with them. This year we also added a “Student of the Month.” We have had a lot of enjoyment celebrating our peers and their accomplishments.
We have also been blessed to watch several performances here at SPSL which are always well done. The students love to see their younger family members perform and the excitement is contagious. We also had the opportunity to attend the Marian Musical and see some of our former peer perform there.
More details to come, hopefully sooner, about the next few months of life in 7B.
Merry Christmas
Mrs. Jaros
Welcome to 7B
August 15, 2024
Welcome to 7B. I’m so excited to have you all here. 7B is where we learn English and Literature so I’m the lucky one who is able to work with your students twice a day.
Literature will start the year reading While I was Away or Weedflower.
English is going to start with a personal narrative.
I’m really looking forward to this year and hope that you are too.
Mrs. Jaros
Hello from 7B!
November 29, 2023
Welcome to 7B!
All seventh graders visit 7B twice each day for language arts instruction, which focus on the following main subject areas:
English grammar
Writing
Literature
Vocabulary
One class period is comprised of literature (reading all sorts of awesome stuff from across a multitude of genres), while the other is comprised if English grammar, writing, and vocabulary. Vocabulary lessons center on word analysis using Greek and Latin roots — fun!
This year, we will be reading a few new books as part of a Nebraska Humanities grant-winning exploration of Japanese history, culture, and literature. We’ll even get to visit Lauritzen Gardens to paint and write poetry in the Japanese Park.
Additionally, I am the faculty sponsor for two awesome clubs open to sixth- through eighth-graders: No Place for Hate (grades 6-8) and Book Bowl (grades 7-8). Information on how to participate in these two clubs will be provided to your child, but please email anytime with questions.
Third Quarter in 7B
January 19, 2023
It’s that time of year again — WRITING PROJECT time! This quarter, students will spend much of their English class time completing the writing process to produce a research paper on a topic of their choice. We will explore various purposes for writing; review how to conduct safe research that yields credible sources; learn how to cite sources in MLA format; and spend a lot of time writing, revising, and editing. Best of all, students will get to present their writing to their classmates as part of an oral presentation.
In literature class, students will work in groups to create their own utopias. As we have learned from reading The Giver, creating a utopia that is truly perfect is extraordinarily difficult; this project is an excellent (and fun!) way for students to consider moral and ethical issues and to continue to deepen their critical thinking skills. We will also read some more awesome short stories and start another novel.
As always, there’s lots to look forward to in 7B. Language arts rocks!
